Mike Robb - biography

After gaining a degree in Physics from Edinburgh University – where he and Scottish Labour Party leader Iain Gray were classmates - 53 year old Mr Robb has spent most of his career in the computer industry – working all over the UK the US and Europe.

He is a well known voice in IT industry circles across the UK.

Mike currently owns and manages an Edinburgh and Inverness-based IT consultancy - working mainly with small businesses - and is a non exec Director of two social enterprises, including one operating in the Highlands.

He has been married to Gwen – a full time NHS nurse – since the early eighties.

Gwen is from Sutherland and over the years Mike has developed strong family and personal connections in the Highlands.

Mike and Gwen have two grown up children – James and Alasdair - both of whom have benefited from Scotland’s excellent state schools.

Mike is a long-standing and well known activist in the Scottish Labour Party, responsible for organising many successful election campaigns.

In 2005, he was the agent for long-standing Scottish Labour MP, Gavin Strang.

He is also a member of Unite the Union and of the Scottish Cooperative Party.

His experience of raising a family whilst developing a successful business career combines with his progressive political values to give him real insight into how a Labour politician can make a difference for ordinary people.

Outside of work and family, Mike is an enthusiastic hill walker and climber committed to the protection of our outdoor environment as a member of the Scottish Ramblers, the BMC and The John Muir Trust
